Silver Lake Water & Sewer District is committed to the conservation of our natual resources. By working in partnership
with our customers, we strive to help preserve the earth's resources for generations to come. Thank you for your water
conservation efforts.
Tips For Efficient Water Use
- Keep showers to a maximum of ten minutes and install energy efficient shower heads.
- Do not hose down driveways or sidewalks. Using a broom can save up to 150 gallons each time.
- Do not leave water running when washing dishes, brushing your teeth, or shaving.
- Only run full loads in your washing machine or dishwasher.
- Only water your lawn in early morning or evening to reduce evaporation. Also avoid watering in the heat of the day
or when it is windy.
Toilet Leaks
- If you hear water running in your toilet even when the tank is full, the fill valve may be faulty. Correcting this
problem can save up to 50 gallons of water a day, saving you money on your water bill.
- If your toilet cycles on and off throughout the day, the rubber stopper (also called the flapper) between the
tank and the bowl is not seating properly which causes water to slowly drain from the tank. Adjusting or replacing
the flapper often fixes this problem.
- If you are unsure whether your toilet is leaking, the District has non-toxic dye tablets available in the office
so you can check for a leak.
